Alton Brown, Bacon Cheeseburger, Tortilla Soup
I tried calling Alton Brown the other day to give him a few free copies of Pocket Bacon.
(No, you can't have the phone number, it's hard to find for a reason.) Unfortunately, I have to go through his agent for anything like that. I'm sure he gets deluged with goofballs (like me!) trying to get him to endorse stuff for free all the time. So, his agent's job is to sift through the chaff and tell people when they need to do a paid endorsement or sponsorship or something. Obviously, with a $2 iPhone application, that's a little out of my league. To be honest, I don't really care about him endorsing it at all. I just thought he was the kind of guy who would get a chuckle out of it. I _really_ should have gone after Paula Deen. There's a gal who knows the Joy of Bacon and isn't afraid to preach the Gospel of Bacon. Maybe Emeril too. And I bet that Jeffrey Steingarten guy from Iron Chef knows his crispy from his chewy. If you guys are out there, drop me a note. Send Note. Receive [Pocket]Bacon. You know the drill.
Remember, if you're a fan of the PocketBacon app, tell your friends, tell your neighbors, and tell potential buyers on the Apple iTunes store Pocket Bacon reviews how much you love it:

In other news, I made a nice bacon mushroom cheddar burger for myself for dinner last night. It was delicious, but since I was preparing other entrees at the same time, I overcooked the burger on the grill. I should have just eaten the toppings and gave my dog the burger. He got the bacon drippings on his food again this morning. Gotta keep on the good side of Man's Best Friend.
Last week I made an awesome Tortilla Soup loosely based on this recipe. I also made a vegetarian version with vegetable stock for my wife. It was one of the best first-time recipes I've ever done. Basically perfect, though I'd never made it before. While I was eating it, I was thinking about how the crispy fried tortilla strips could have been replaced with short, thin strips of bacon. I bet the tomato/chicken broth would still be good, and you could leave the shredded chicken as-is, or replace it with pulled pork for a real pig-fest!
